Dunfermline City Archive

Dunfermline City Archive has the aim of regaining lost and missing documents pertaining  to Dunfermline’s Historic past. With the break up of the Burgh, the task has been even more difficult but the importance of it to us all is the conservation of our City’s records for our future generations.

Dunfermline City Archive was organised so that we could work with Fife Archive and The National Archive of Scotland, with the mutual aim of the preservation of the public records of this area of West Fife and with the overall intention of making all these records more accessible to the general public.

The Archive has been in existence from the end of year 2007 and is located within the Local Services Centre, Walmer Drive Dunfermline. These premises were made available for our use by Fife Council. We work with Dave Paterson, Locality Manager, Local Services Network, Fife Council and his staff. The location of our premises has proved a wonderful asset as we are central and have the use of the car park for visitors.

We currently have a core of Volunteers, who see to the day-to-day running of the Archive. The Archive Reading Room proves to be a busy place full of working groups where the Public are more than welcome, even if only to ask questions on Family History. We are there to help where we can and if the enquiries are outside our remit, we refer them to the West Fife Family History Group, who have a meeting on the last Wednesday of the month within our offices.

We have already, in a very short time, ingathered from our Friends and the Public many items to help Researchers in their quest on local studies.

We invite you to come along and network with us to build up your local Dunfermline City Archive.

We are Open for visits on

WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY mornings from 10 o’clock until 12 o’clock
